St. George’s Grenada: 23^rd MARCH 2023 

A three (3) member delegation from the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection and the Secretariat of the International Climate Initiative (BMUV/IKI) concluded a 10-day visit to Grenada. 

The team who began their visit on Monday 6^th March 2023 engaged partners of the Climate-Resilient Water Sector in Grenada (G-CREWS) Project, Government officials and officials from other projects funded by the German ministry in Grenada. 

During their exchange with NAWASA, several critical areas including the construction of additional storage facilities, implementation of renewable energy systems within the water sector to help address CO2 reduction were discussed with members of NAWASA’s management team.  

General Manager Mr. Christopher Husbands, Planning and Development Department Manager Mr. Whyme Cox along with Mr. Lendon Bullen all commended the German team for their financial contribution to the project and the overall benefit it will bring not only to NAWASA but also to the people of Grenada. Also present were members of the GIZ Grenada and G-CREWS team – Head of Project (GIZ) Ms. Marion Geiss and Project Manager Mr. Brian Bonaparte. 

Following the engagement, the team visited several potential construction sites slated for additional storage facilities under the G-CREWS Project. 

The German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) under its International Climate Initiative (IKI) is one of the financiers of the G-CREWS Project for specifically components 4 and 5. The project is also funded by the Green Climate Fund and the Government of Grenada.  

during their visit, the German delegation paid a courtesy call to Minister for Infrastructure and Physical Development, Public Utilities, Civil Aviation and Transportation Honourable Dennis Cornwall and Permanent Secretary Mr. Michael S. W. Stephen. Discussions centered around ministerial bilateral engagements currently ongoing between the two countries along with potential opportunities to continue their bilateral relationship. 

While in Grenada, the Germany delegation also had discussions with Permanent Secretary Mrs. Marina Jessamy and Senior Technical Officer Mrs. Aria St. Louis both from the Ministry of Climate Resilience, the Environment and Renewable Energy. 

The sisterisle of Carraciou was not left out on their visit to Grenada. The team journey there and met with Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, Mr. Javan Williams and Climate Change Focal Point for Carriacou and Petite Martinique, Mr. Davon Baker. The mission was to examine previously funded projects and the development of new ones.  

Additional sites visited while in Carriacou were Bishop’s College, Top Hill water catchment; the solar field at Limlair and one farmer who installed drip irrigation and rainwater harvesting tanks under the Challenge Fund for Agriculture.
